What a PWA is, when it makes more sense than a native app, and whether it works without an internet connection.
What is a PWA?
It's a progressive web app that can be installed from the browser, opened like an app, use device capabilities, and update without going through a store on every change. Its exact scope depends on the operating system and browser.
When does a PWA make more sense than a native app?
When you want to validate quickly, cover iOS and Android with a shared codebase, reduce cost and avoid download friction. A native app makes sense if the product depends on hardware or system APIs unavailable on the web.
How long does it take?
A custom project usually requires 4 to 8 weeks. The duration depends on the number of roles, screens, rules, integrations, content, testing and approval speed.
Can it also be published on the App Store or Google Play?
A hybrid package or a native version can be evaluated, but a PWA on its own is mainly distributed via URL and browser installation. Store publishing requires separate scope and validation.
Can we launch an MVP and grow later?
Yes. It's recommended to prioritize a value proposition, a critical flow and validation metrics. The architecture should allow for growth without building features from the start that have no evidence of use yet.
Do push notifications work on iPhone?
They work on modern iOS versions for installed PWAs, subject to browser conditions and user permissions. Compatibility should be tested on target devices and communicated with no absolute promises.
Does the PWA work without internet?
It can offer cache, navigation or limited actions offline through service workers and later syncing. Features that depend on real-time data, payments or remote AI require connectivity.
What stack is used?
Next.js/React or suitable alternatives for the frontend; Supabase or Firebase for data and authentication; OneSignal/FCM for notifications; and AI APIs when the use case justifies it.
Can AI be integrated from the start?
Yes, for assistants, classification, vision, voice or personalization. First, value, permitted data, cost per use, expected quality, limits and a human path for errors are defined.
Can it be migrated to native later?
Yes, if the architecture separates logic, data and APIs. It's not always an automatic conversion: native features and store experience may require additional development.
